Product Safety, Weights & Measures
What is a day like for you in CCCS?
A typical day as an officer in the Enforcement team of the Product Safety, Weights & Measures Division involves a mix of investigating incidents related to consumer products and addressing infringements concerning the regulation of these products, as well as weighing and measuring instruments. My responsibilities include conducting spot checks and inspections on businesses to ensure compliance with regulations. Each day presents unique challenges, whether it’s assessing feedback of non-compliance or engaging with businesses to educate them on regulations. This variety keeps my work engaging and impactful.
What motivates you to come to work every day?
I’m motivated by the knowledge that my work contributes to the safety of consumer products purchased by Singaporeans and ensures that transactions are fair in terms of weight and measurement. Knowing that I play a role in protecting consumers drives my passion for this work.
What is the most memorable case that you have done in CCCS?
One of the most memorable cases I handled involved investigating a company that had altered and tampered with their weighing instruments. This case was particularly significant because it underscored the impact of our work in ensuring fair transactions in the marketplace. Through thorough investigation and collaboration with my team, we were able to address the issue and reinforce compliance.
If you have to give advice to a new recruit, what would it be?
For new recruits, I would advise you to approach your work with curiosity and a commitment to learning. Always ask questions and seek to understand the underlying issues behind cases. Building relationships with your colleagues and stakeholders is vital, as collaboration enhances our effectiveness. Lastly, embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.
