Page Background

In June 2014, CCS started investigating

Cordlife Group Limited (“Cordlife”)

because of its exclusive agreements

with baby fair organisers and hospitals.

These agreements potentially had the

effect of limiting competition from other

providers of cord blood bank services in

Singapore. Cordlife would have infringed

the Competition Act for abusing its

dominant position if these agreements

were found to restrict competition in the

cord blood bank industry.

Cordlife then provided CCSwith voluntary

commitments to remove the existing

exclusive arrangements, and to ensure

that going forward, it does not have

such exclusive arrangements with any

baby fair or private maternity hospital

in Singapore. Cordlife was also required

to provide CCS with a confirmation that

the affected baby fair organisers and

hospitals had been informed of the

change in Cordlife’s business practices.
